New Programme - 2010

The Pirates of Penzance

Performed by West Meon Theatre

A Rollicking Ride through the Coves of Cornwall with Innocent Girls, Marauding Pirates and Rather Nervous Policemen.

To be performed when and where?

September 30th, October 1st and 2nd   The Meon Hall, Meonstoke

Who is involved?

Anyone. Members and new members of West Meon Theatre, and there are opportunities for youth theatre members aged 11 and above to be involved.

What skills do I need?

Obviously we were looking for singers, soloists and chorus, but you won’t be asked to sing on your own unless you want to. There are comedy parts, for instance the policemen, where a good singing voice isn’t essential! We are also looking for musicians for our small orchestra and people interested in working back stage and front of house on a large exciting production.

How will it be rehearsed?

In the past West Meon Theatre have pioneered new ways of rehearsing amateur theatre. For this show, again we are trying something different. No-one likes weeks and weeks of rehearsals, the cast lose focus and the production comes together very slowly.       So for this show, we will learn the music on the weekend of July 3rd and 4th between 10.30 and 4pm, (all cast not needed the whole time) the cast will then be expected to practise the music at home, small groups will then have a few rehearsals scheduled over the Summer when it is convenient, then the whole cast will reconvene in September for rehearsals on Wednesday and Friday evenings and Sunday afternoons. So will we have 3 weeks of quite intensive rehearsals in September leading up to the show?

Our next Panto is Puss in Boots being performed in February 2011.

This will be written by Helena Gomm, who wrote our last Panto ‘Sleeping Beauty’ in 2009.

The music this time will be written and played by Theo, who is now composing the songs for ALICE and most recently the incidental music and songs for Cider with Rosie.

Hazel and I will once again look forward to your involvement both on and off stage.  More details will follow later in the year with firm dates for auditions and rehearsals; don’t miss this space for the adventure of a lifetime!
