Chaos, Comedy and Corruption Await in The Government Inspector!
The wait is over – we’re delighted to invite you to the information evening and auditions for our next production,
THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR or A LITTLE LOCAL DIFFICULTY
an adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s classic comedy by Philip Goulding
Following the success of our previous show, we’re excited to turn our attention to this brilliant and timeless comedy. Packed with eccentric characters, mistaken identities, corruption, chaos and plenty of laughs, The Government Inspector offers fantastic opportunities for performers of all ages and experience levels.
Whether you’re a regular on our stage, returning after a break, or considering getting involved for the very first time, we’d love to see you at our information evening. This is a chance to meet the production team, learn more about the play, hear about our vision for the production, and find out everything you need to know about rehearsals and auditions.
There are a wide range of roles available, from larger principal parts to supporting characters, and we warmly encourage everyone to audition. Not interested in performing? We’d also love to hear from anyone who would like to help backstage, with costumes, props, set construction, front of house, or any of the many other roles that help make a production possible.

The Government Inspector or A Little Local Difficulty is Philip Goulding’s adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s classic satirical comedy, relocating the action from provincial Russia to Victorian England while retaining its sharp humour about corruption, vanity, and official incompetence.
A fast-paced farce filled with mistaken identity, colourful characters, and witty dialogue, the play is a lively satire on bureaucracy, greed, and human folly that remains as relevant today as when Gogol first wrote it.
Audition materials and character information will be available at the information evening.
One of the best things about West Meon Theatre is the sense of community that comes with every production. Whether you end up on stage, backstage, or supporting from the audience, we hope you’ll join us as we begin the exciting journey of bringing The Government Inspector to life.
We can’t wait to see both familiar and new faces and to start creating another memorable production.
See you there!
Kind Regards
Paul Willcox
Director and Production Manager
